Question by oh_mon_dieu: languages????

ok well im learning dutch and german. but ppl are telling me that learning dutch is a waste of time! cuz everywhere they speak a difrent kind of dutch, but isnt it the same with all languages? like french in canada and french in paris are difrent right? am i wasting my time with dutch, is german better? where else but germany do they speak german? wt are the best languages to learn. ialready know french.

Learning Dutch isn't a waste of time. Just travel to Holland and see how your efforts are appreciated! Moreover, the fewer the people learning the language, the more in demand you might turn out to be as one of the few with a knowledge of it.
To answer your question about German, it is spoken in Austria and Switzerland as well as Germany and I have used it as a lingua franca (common language) in travelling in other European countries, as it is a language many people learn at school.
