What is everyones new thing with vampires?

I am just curious. I saw the movie twilight and thought it was a decent movie. But the interest in vampires started a while before that. What does everyone see that I don't.

read the books, it'll make a little more sense. But I'm still thoroughly creeped out by the people who now think they will marry a drop-dead-gorgeous romantic vampire when they grow up...
