Question by Michael:

How did people kill animals in the ritual sacrifices in the Bible?

The Old Testament gives many many instances of ritual animal sacrifices, and, in certain situations, even rules of how to carry out the rituals. What I want to know--if it's possible to know--is the technique(s) they used to kill the animals during the rituals, e.g. stab them to death, slit their throat, bludgeon them to death, etc.

Please don't bother giving a religious answer, I would like a rational answer based on evidence.

Unless you can find someone alive today who was there....there is no evidence other than the stories of the traditions. According to those, the throat was cut so the animals blood would drain out. It was the blood that was the sacrifice, not the death of the animal.
